Once upon a time, there is a young man named Sampuraga who lived in Padang Bolak with his elderly mother. Suffering from poverty, Sampuraga wished to improve his live by migrating (merantau) His bad goodbye from his mother in a tearful farewell.
Sampuraga traveled the Mandailing heartland in search for opportunities, first to Pidolo, then to Sirambas. At that time, Sirambas was ruled by Raja Silanjang. The king was attracted by Sampuraga’s diligent and hard work, to the extent bestrode his daughter to him. Sampuraga cheerfully accept the daughter’s hand in marriage, as he will now be a rich person. The king wished to hold a huge wedding party in his palace, so he spread the world of this marriage to all neighboring areas. Upon a hearing of his son’s success, Sampuraga’s mother became very happy and went to attend the wedding.
However, when the mother approached Sampuraga, the young man became ashamed of his mother’s poverty-stricken appearance and denied her. “You are not my mother, old woman! She has died long ago”, shout Sampuraga while ordering for the old lady to be expelled from the palace. Crying profusely, the elderly mother prayed to Allah SWT for his son to be punished for betraying his mother after his eyes were blinded by wealth. She pressed he breast which feed Sampuraga when he was a baby.
At the same time, a sudden tsunami of boiling water struck the palace, completely destroying it and drowning everyone inside, including Sampuraga. The vicinity of the area turned into an eternal hot spring. Hence, this is the legendary origin of Sampuraga’s Hot Springs in Sambas village. @@@
