What is digital economy?
Digital economy is a market
constructed on digital technology (Wiki: Digital economy). Some other names for it are New Economy, Web
Economy or Internet Economy. It was first mentioned in the bestselling
book by Don Tapscott named The Digital Economy: Promise and Peril in the Age
of Networked Intelligence (Book Review). It was one of a group of books that first
introduced the world to a new way of doing business. It was also named
best selling business book by BusinessWeek in 1996. It tells what is
going to happen in the years to come in the world of Digital Economy.
There are a number of things that digital economy is used for. They
involve the following:
- Communication
- Devising Strategies
- Interaction
- Collaboration
The impact of digital economy
Digital economy has made a big
impact on the way we do business today. People use their computers,
tablets and phones for everything today. From paying bills to checking
email to playing on Facebook for entertainment the internet is one of the best
tools that was ever created to man. Using digital economy gives the
consumer more options to purchase with in return giving the vendor more revenue
to count because they have a larger playing field interested than before.
It is believed that with the development of digital economy there will be more
rivalry. Vendors will have new vendors to compete with because of the
growth in the digital world. Because of this development transactions are
quicker and more efficient. Companies need to be observant and will
become more powerful. Tracking of systems will have an increasing amount
of security. Accessibility will be better and more efficient. One
problem is the middle class employment rate will go up. If there are no
positions because they are filled with digital means then there will be no more
middle class. If these jobs are taken over by computers they become the
poor class. Leadership roles have declined in the workplace. And
companies like Netflix have taken over from companies like Blockbuster.
People are adapting but I don’t think fast enough for the growing changes that
are coming about in digital economy. One thing is however whether the
change benefits you are not it is going to happen. Digital Economy has
increased in size in the last few years and will continue to grow. We
just have to pick ourselves up and try to keep up to the best of our abilities.
